Onion Rings

Inspired by The Steak Book

Onion rings are definitely one of my guilty pleasure, and they were very tasty with Ribeye steak or a New York Strip. Really, onion rings can go well with just about any grilled meat, pork, lamb chops or grilled chicken.


  • 2 white onions, sliced

  • 2 cups heavy cream

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups all- purpose flour

  • Oil for frying, I used peanut oil about 2 inches deep

Yields: serving for 4

Prep Time: 30 minuites

Cook Time: 30 minuites


  1. Place the sliced onions in a large bowl and add the heavy cream and salt. Let sit for 30 minutes, covered in the refrigerator.

  2. When ready to use, place a handful of the onions in a plastic bag.

  3. Add some of the flour, enough to coat the rings.

  4. Shake off excess flour and add the rings in the hot oil.

  5. Fry for 5-6 minutes, until the are lightly browned.

  6. Drain on a paper towel and sprinkle with more salt.
