Apple Macadamia Nut Tart

Ingredients for the crust:
6 ounces butter, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/3 cups all- purpose flour, sifted
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 egg yolks
In a stand mixer, cream the butter with salt. Add the flour slowly until well blended. Next add the sugar, the vanilla extract and the eggs. Mix until well blended.
Remove from the mixing bowl, place dough in plastic wrap, and place in the refrigerator while you work on the rest of the tart.
Ingredients for the apple butter:
3 Golden Delicious or Granny Smith apples, peeled, chopped
3 Tablespoons butter
2 Tablespoons rose water
1/4 cup water, if needed
In a heavy bottom saucepan, add the apples, butter and rose water.
Cover and allow to simmer on low heat for about one hour.
Check frequently to stir, and ensure that the butter does not need more liquid. If it does, you can add more rose water or regular water.
Ingredients for the macadamia nut filling:
5 ounces butter, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup macadamia nuts, ground
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a stand mixer, cream the butter and salt. Add the nuts and vanilla extract.
Add the egg.
4 apples, sliced
Preheat oven 325°F.
Remove the dough from the refrigerator. Let sit at room temperature for a few minutes. I placed a parchment paper on the counter, placed the dough on it, and covered it with another parchment paper. This allows me to easily roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness.
Peel back top layer of parchment. Place the dough in the tart pan. Remove the remaining layer of parchment.
With a knife, trim the excess dough that is overhanging the edges of the tart pan, and poke holes in the dough with a fork.
Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
Spread the macadamia nut mixture in the crust. Place in the oven and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove, and allow to cool.
Top with the cooled macadamia nut filling and apple butter.
Slice the apples into thin slices, and decorate the top.
Place the tart under the broiler for 5 minutes to allow apples to cook quickly.
